After winning the MLS Cup last campaign, Columbus Crew have performed exceptionally well in their opening three matches of the 2024 season. They have a near-perfect record, currently at 2-1-0 and picking up seven points out of a possible nine - No side in the Eastern Conference has picked up more points so far.

Part of the reason why The Crew were so successful last season and at the start of 2024 is because of their mainstay goalkeeper, Patrick Schulte. The number 12 overall MLS SuperDraft pick from 2022 is proving to be an invaluable pick-up. He has started all of The Crew's opening MLS match-ups so far, only conceding twice in three games.

Having recently been involved with the USMNT for the first time, it is no surprise that he is beginning to garner attention in Europe. From Crew's perspective, though, they will do everything in their power to keep their mainstay goalkeeper, who could be pivotal to their success yet again this year.

Arsenal want Columbus Crew mainstay to replace Aaron Ramsdale

According to English outlet The Telegraph, Premier League side Arsenal FC are interested in signing Patrick Schulte to be their back-up goalkeeper. Currently, the Gunners are looking for a number 2 goalkeeper to replace Aaron Ramsdale, who could seek a new club come the end of the season.

Interestingly, London-based Arsenal were home to former MLS alumni member Matt Turner just one season ago, before signing with fellow Premier League side Nottingham Forest. Schulte could be competing with the USMNT goalkeeper Turner for a spot in the national team, so having them both compete against each other in the Premier League could make for an interesting battle.

Schulte has been on the brink of his European breakthrough for some time now. It would be a bittersweet moment for The Crew, who are likely to demand a hefty transfer fee if they are to let go of their prized 23-year-old.
