The Crew looks to be on the verge of a major signing. According to the French newspaper l’Equipe, they are close to bringing in attacking midfielder Dylan Chambost of Saint-Etienne.

Chambost is a very big reason why Saint-Etienne was able to make its way through the Ligue 1 playoffs and win promotion to France’s top league for the upcoming season. He’s known as a technically sound, intelligent player who has outstanding stamina-a trait that will serve him well in Crew head coach Wilfried Nancy’s attacking system. He had six goals and 7 assists this past season in 33 appearances for The Greens. Fotmob, a website that rates player performance on a game-by-game basis, gives him a 7.41 rating (on a scale of 10) for the 2023-24 season. In other words, the Crew is getting a good player.

Chambost’s contract with Saint-Etienne is up at the end of this month and it is assumed he will then make his way to Columbus. It is well known MLS has been a desired destination for him. With 20 games still remaining in the regular season, adding a player like Chambost will be a huge boost for the Crew as they put themselves in position to defend their MLS Cup title.

Reports of this deal first surfaced on MLS Multiplex and Saint-Etienne fan site Peuple Vert, but we did not see anything from a media outlet who cited any type of official source. That all changed with l’Equipe confirming the 26-year old, French-born Chambost will be joining the Crew.

It was about this time last year, the Crew brought in Malte Amundsen. We all are quite well aware how that deal worked out. If Chambost does indeed join the club, the hope is he can have the same type of impact as Amundsen.
