There has been a lot speculation for a while now about what the Crew will set as the transfer fee for Cucho when, not if, but when a club with a fat wallet knocks on their door. According to one report, the Crew has settled on a number.

During a segment on Wednesday’s episode of Insiders on TUDN, Diego Medina was discussing CF Monterrey’s desire to add a top center forward in three months. He said if they can’t find one they like, then Cucho would be the target and the Crew’s asking price is $22 million.

Now, I don’t doubt Medina is a very well-connected member of the soccer media, but this is the only time we’ve seen any sort of figure actually reported. If the Crew has set their price for Cucho at $22 million, there are certain MLS insiders, like Tom Bogert of Soccerwise, who would have reported this. There isn’t anything that seems to move in MLS that he doesn’t know about.

Keep in mind that by bringing up Cucho as a transfer target for Monterrey, who plays in LigaMX, Medina is doing nothing more than giving his opinion that he’s a good option for them. If he reported Monterrey is in talks with the Crew, I’d not doubt this $22 million figure. As things stand right now, I’m not ready to believe this is the Crew’s asking price. For the record, transfermrket.us lists Cucho's value at $14.4 million.

The Crew defeated Monterrey in the CONCACAF Champions Cup semifinals earlier this season. TUDN is the sports division of Univision.
